So close…

July 30, 2007 10:14 pm

Ryan is so close to a couple things…

  1. He’s be walking any day now.  He pulls himself up and can balance for a few seconds, but he’s not yet taking the steps on his own.  When he does, though… watch out big sister!
  2. His second top tooth will (hopefully!) break through soon.  Then he’ll have a match for both bottom teeth.  There are days you can tell he’s really uncomfortable, but it just sits up there.  Poor kiddo.

Grand Cayman

July 19, 2007 9:59 pm

(Ohh… so much to add to this post still…..)

The entire family headed to Grand Cayman for a week of Caribbean relaxation and scuba diving.  David’s mom (a.k.a. “Nana” to the grandkids) and Aunt Judy were also invited.  It was a wonderful situation for everybody.  Kids and relatives got to spend time together, we got to scuba dive without fretting about the kids, and Nana and Judy got a nice vacation and time to relax.

(plenty more to post later.  For now, just a stub to the picture.  Here’s the deal with the pictures… I’ve loaded the same set to two places.  I want opinions about which place you prefer.  Where do you like the layout better?  Which is easier to browse?  Or more responsive? etc. )

Crawling Baby and other Good Times

April 28, 2007 10:04 pm
Crawling baby, etc.

Watch Out!  Ryan is crawling now, and he is at that ultimate cute-baby phase.  His laughs and antics are adorable, and he is learning so much about the world around him now.  Alexa is learning new skills about keeping her toys away from him, but she is also enjoying how much more interactive he is now.  We are starting to get those “He’s touching my carseat!!” comments now, though!  As always, click on the thumbnail to check out the gallery for other fun times.

Easter

Easter

Easter was celebrated at the Hester house with a large gathering of family.  Julie made a wonderful Easter lunch, and then the gaggle of girls including Alexa, Emily, Katie, and their cousin Laura hunted up baskets-full of eggs.  Ryan dozed through the egghunt!  Alexa also got two “practice” egg hunts at a playdate and the church’s Easter celebration.

Lonestar Triathlon / Houston trip

Lone Star / Houston trip

Our first race of the season was in Galveston at the new Lonestar Triathlon Festival.  The kids had a ball playing with Nana and Frampa in Houston while we raced in Galveston.

2007 Lone Star Sprint

Beth raced on Saturday in the Sprint event.  It was her first race back since the birth of Ryan, and she had a great start to the season.  It even poured buckets of rain during her run, and she still finished smiling.  In fact, she came close to a personal best on the run!

2007 Lone Star Quarter

David had a phenominal race on Sunday during the Quarter Iron event.  He came very close to earning a medal, a first at this distance for David.   We also had a nice gathering with family in Houston after the event where we celebrated Alexa’s birthday a second time and saw Ali’s finished remodeling.

Alexa’s Birthday

March 24, 2007 9:57 pm
a new bike!

Alexa had a great birthday party with family.  The Hesters and McCorkle grandparents came over to help celebrate.  The biggest attraction at the Pink Poodle-themed party was the new bicycle.  Alexa had been wanting one for quite a while, as she is a regular at the local bike shops with Mommy and Daddy.

Alexa's Birthday

She had become so proficient at “testing” all the children’s bikes that we decided it was time she had one of her own.  She is now the youngest cyclist of the family on a purple puppy bike with training wheels.  We got her the 16-inch size to last her a long time.

Spring Portraits

Spring Portraits
We took the kids for their Spring portraits, as Ryan had changed so much since the last ones and Alexa’s birthday was around the corner.  We also took their Easter outfits and got some priceless photos.

Springtime Fun

birthday bike

I splurged for David’s birthday and bought him a new triathlon bike.  He deserved it with his training discipline and promising race results in the past.  He is delighted to give it a try at his next race.

{David’s note: And what a bike!!  A 2007 Cervelo P2C.  I see personal records falling like dominos… if only I can get this ‘engine’ up to the task. :-) }

Then there are a some pics of the kids around the house or at play events.

Late Winter Fun

Late Winter Fun

We had a short spell of  February snow that Alexa enjoyed making the World’s Smallest Snowman in.  Fortunately, the snow did pack well, so she also got to learn about snowball fights!!!  She is also enjoying the Brio trains Aunt Karen sent her for Christmas.  She changes the track a couple times a week.  Ryan also started sitting up, and he became quite accomplished at it quickly.  What a cutie!!!

Odds and Ends

Winter variety

Here are just a few random pics that we snapped around the end of the year.  There’s an especially adorable one of Ryan.  (Yes, yes, I’m biased.)

Christmas

December 25, 2006 12:42 pm
Christmas

We hosted Christmas for the family at our house this year.  It wasn’t even close to a ‘white Christmas’, but at least the weather was blustery enough to warrant a fire in the fireplace.  Alexa discovered quickly that Santa had enjoyed the cookies and milk she had left the previous evening, and spent the early morning exploring gifts he had left in her stocking.

The grandparents McCorkle, and aunt, uncle, and cousins Hester arrived late morning to open presents.  The kids, as expected, couldn’t get enough of opening gifts.  Beth had prepared lamb as the main dish for the afternoon lunch, and Julie’s homemade red velvet cake was dessert.  The kids had a fun and active afternoon trying out various new toys and games.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving weekend in Houston was a lot of fun.  Some of the aunts and uncles got to meet Ryan for the first time.  Alexa spent time with everyone, including her cousins.  They showed us what daredevils they were by jumping from one of the pecan trees.  Alexa also spent special time with Nana making pumpkin bread and a gingerbread house.  Lots of pics in this album.  (Click the thumbnail.)

We visited Steve’s new house.  He and Danielle are working hard on the renovations and it’s going to look great.

Two-by-two Western Fun - giddyup!

Ponies!

Daddy and Alexa got to spend time at the church where they listened to a cowboy story, got to play at digging for gold, target shooting (Nerf), and then the main event - pony rides!  Alexa really wanted to ride on the black pony, and waited patiently in line two different times to get the chance.

Halloween

October 31, 2006 5:18 pm
Halloween

It was a safari Halloween with a not-exactly-scary-but-oh-so-cute giraffe (Alexa) and lion (Ryan).  There was a neighborhood Halloween party held at the local elementary the weekend before, and we trick-or-treated Halloween night with neighborhood friends.
